At Alison Tam Swimming, we prioritize creating a comfortable and enjoyable learning environment for our students. Understanding the right equipment for each level is crucial to enhancing their swimming experience. Here’s a breakdown of the necessary gear for each stage of our swimming program.
Baby & Tots (up to 2 years 10 months)
For our littlest swimmers, we believe in fostering a natural connection with water. Therefore, no equipment is required at this stage. We recommend that babies and tots do not wear swim caps or water shoes. This approach allows them to experience the sensation of water on their skin, helping them feel comfortable and enjoy their time in the pool. The focus here is on building trust and familiarity with the water.
Tots 3 (2.5 years and above)
As children progress to the Tots 3 level, it's a great time to introduce goggles. Initially, they may resist wearing them, but this is a normal part of the adjustment process. Goggles are essential for helping young swimmers feel comfortable while submerged and can significantly enhance their confidence in the water.
When selecting goggles, it's important to choose ones specifically designed for young children. They should fit snugly and comfortably to prevent leaks and distractions.
For students wearing goggles, we also recommend using a swim cap. The swim cap serves several functions:
It keeps the goggle straps in place, preventing water from entering the lens area.
It minimizes distractions from hair, allowing swimmers to focus on their technique.
It enhances hygiene by keeping loose hair contained.
We’re pleased to offer swim caps for free to students willing to wear them, ensuring that everyone can benefit from this added layer of comfort and practicality.
Kids Paddlers and Above
For our older children and students in the Kids Paddlers level and above, kick boards become an essential piece of equipment. They should be relatively small compared to the student's body size and firm enough to hold comfortably. Kick boards are vital for a variety of drills used in these courses, promoting better kicking techniques and overall swimming skills.
Adult Courses
In our adult courses, kick boards are also required. They serve similar purposes as in the kids' classes, aiding in technique improvement and providing support during drills.
