Updated: Jul 8

Guide for First-Time Students at Island School

Welcome to ATS Swimming at Island School! We’re thrilled you’ve booked your first swim lesson with us. This Lesson Preparation Guide: Island School will help you prepare for a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Location

Address: Island School, 20 Borrett Road, Mid Level, Hong Kong

Getting There

  • Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of your class.

  • There is no entry fee.

  • The pool is located on Lower Ground 3/F.

  • Entrance to the pool is via the main entrance. Please first register at the Guard Box. Then go up another set of stairs to the fire exit set of double doors (not the Sports Hall). Inside you will find another fire exit door. Enter and walk down the stairs to LG3. This is where the pool is located.

The Pool

  • It is an indoor heated pool with a constant water temperature of 28 - 29C.

  • No rash guards or sunscreen is needed; but thermal wear is highly recommend for students in Beginners, Paddlers and Strokes 1, throughout the year. Read more about thermal wear here.

  • Absolutely no outside shoes on deck to maintain hygiene for our swimmers.

  • To ensure safety, please keep the pool deck clear of any obstructions. Parents and guardians are welcome to wait in the spectator stand after dropping off their child.

Finding Your Class

After booking your lesson, you should receive an automated confirmation email.

Your confirmation email will include:

Essential Equipment

  • Well-Fitted Swimsuit: A properly fitted swimsuit is crucial. A suit that is too big can create unnecessary drag, while one that is too small can cause discomfort, both of which can hinder the learning process.

  • Swim Cap: We provide swim caps for regular students. While students may initially find them uncomfortable and resist wearing them, swim caps help prevent goggle straps from slipping and reduce distractions from hair.

  • Goggles: Starting from the Tots 3 level, children should practice wearing goggles. This helps them become comfortable with submerging and protects their eyes from irritation.

  • Kickboard: A kickboard is essential for Kids Paddlers level and above to practice various drills. If you're purchasing your own, opt for a smaller, firmer board that fits your child's size.

🌟 Suitable goggles and kick boards can be purchased directly from our shop, with delivery to your lesson. Click the image below to access our shop!
